The 12 best veggie burger recipes
From halloumi burgers to chickpea burgers, here's how to make veggie burgers that everyone will love
The Best Vegetarian Burger Recipes: Cheesy Vegetarian Burger Recipes
Jersey Royal, Lentil and Feta Burger
Nothing says summer like throwing a burger on the grill! This homemade veggie burger recipe is ideal for dining al fresco, but also works well as a midweek meal. Ready in 40 minutes, the patty consists of potatoes, tinned green lentils, Feta and sundried tomatoes as well as fresh and dried herbs. Top with sliced vegetables and serve with a simple kale and carrot coleslaw for the ultimate lentil burger recipe.
Chickpea and Halloumi Burgers
Thick slices of salty cheese add a lovely taste and texture to this halloumi burger recipe. The burger patties won’t take long to put together. Simply sauté onions, garlic and cumin seeds, then blend the remaining ingredients together. Shape your patties, leave them in the fridge to chill, then fry them for a few minutes on each side. Top with the halloumi slices, your favourite burger toppings and serve!
Bean Burger Recipes
Falafel Burgers
Falafel is typically eaten in a wrap, or as pieces on its own. But the mixture also works well sandwiched between hamburger buns! This Moroccan-inspired falafel burger recipe is really easy to make, so works equally as well for a mid-week dinner or a weekend treat.
Chickpeas, kidney beans and mixed beans are blended together with spices, sweetcorn and egg. Shape your burger patties, cook for a couple of minutes on each side, then place inside warmed bread buns. We recommend enjoying this one with sweet potato fries and a fresh side salad.
Black Bean & Beetroot Burgers
Take your homemade burger recipe to the next level with an accompanying homemade mayo! This black bean burger recipe consists of cooked black beans mixed with spices and grated beetroot. The patties are then cooked in a large frying pan for a few minutes. For the burger sauce recipe, simply combine mayonnaise with tomato purée, chutney and gherkins for a lovely texture and tangy taste. This beetroot burger recipe also uses brioche for the burger buns, adding an even more indulgent twist.
Mushroom Burger Recipes
Pesto, Goats’ Cheese and Mushroom Burgers with Caramelised Shallots
If you prefer juicy Portobello mushrooms to a mixed patty, then this easy veggie burger recipe is for you. The large mushroom heads are grilled to bring out their earthy flavour. Meanwhile, chopped shallots and the mushroom stalks add a different texture to the pesto sauce. Topped with melted goat’s cheese and served on a ciabatta bun with a drizzle of pesto, it’s a fragrant and unique option for burger lovers.
Portobello, Mushroom, Beetroot and Goats’ Cheese Burgers
Portobello mushrooms and goats’ cheese combine to make the ultimate veggie burger recipe. Sweet and herby caramelised red onions balance out the earthiness of the grilled mushroom and goats’ cheese. The burgers are topped with slices of beetroot and avocado for a truly indulgent veggie burger.
Chickpea Veggie Burger Recipes
Courgette, Sweet Potato and Chickpea Veggie Burgers
Every vegetarian should have a good chickpea burger recipe under their sleeve, and this one is ideal for your next barbecue. Easy to make and full of flavour, they’re a real crowd-pleaser. The chickpea burger patty includes grated courgette and sweet potatoes as well as caramelised red onions for a really unique flavour and texture. After cooking the patties on the barbecue, toast the burger buns, and assemble your burgers with traditional toppings like lettuce, sliced tomatoes and mayonnaise.
Carrot and Chickpea Burgers
Here’s a healthy burger recipe that’s a cinch to make! Grated carrots and courgette, chickpeas and spices create a textured vegetable patty that has a lovely, earthy flavour. It’s served sandwiched between fluffy ciabatta bread rolls, and topped with a homemade Asian-inspired salad – delicious!
Vegan Burgers
Vegan Carrot, Coriander and Quinoa Burgers
Even non-vegans will love this delicious burger, plus it’s gluten-free! The patties are easy to make, and can be prepared in advance and kept in the fridge or freezer. Packed with protein, the vegan burger patty comprises tricolour quinoa grains, a mixture of nuts and seeds, chickpea flour, grated carrot and a medley of fragrant spices. The patty does take a bit more time to put together as you’ll need to pre-cook the quinoa, and fry the spices with the vegetables. But the end result is well worth it! Serve in a gluten-free roll or regular burger bun with mango chutney, extra grated carrot, and homemade potato wedges on the side.
Inside Out Tofu Burger
If you want to truly wow the crowd – or post a drool-worthy burger pic to Instagram – then this one’s a winner. A marinade of sesame oil, tamari and maple syrup adds a beautiful flavour to the tofu, which takes the place of a bun. Meanwhile, an edamame and matcha patty packs in plenty of plant power, with added flavour coming from kimchi and sweet miso paste.
To assemble the burger, simply stack your tofu, patty, portobello mushroom and additional vegetables. Drizzle over some homemade sweet chilli sauce, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and dig in!
Easy Cauliflower Steak Burger Recipe
Even when you can’t be bothered or simply don’t have the time to create a homemade burger, you can still enjoy something delicious. This cauliflower steak burger combines GOSH! Mixed Seed, Quinoa, Carrot & Coriander Bake bites and spiced, roasted cauliflower. The result is a really zingy burger that’s balanced out with fresh pesto and hummus.
Walnut and Mushroom Burgers
Walnuts and mushrooms add a wonderful texture to this vegan bean burger recipe. The addition of a homemade vegan garlic yoghurt spread beautifully complements the earthy flavours of the patty, too. It’s served with a walnut and cucumber salad for an extra layer of nuttiness. Serve it with a refreshing cucumber salad, a drizzle of extra walnut oil, and lightly-grilled buns.
