Love Food Give Food campaign calls on UK foodies

Action Against Hunger's initiative helps support vulnerable communities facing food shortages

Love Food Give Food campaign calls on UK foodies

The return of a charity campaign means you can help support the world’s most vulnerable communities that are facing food shortages.

Action Against Hunger‘s annual Love Food Give Food campaign will be held during September and October, where you can turn your love of food into action by eating from various UK food and drink brands, retailers and restaurants in aid of the charity’s great cause.

This year, your choices have an even greater effect given the impact that COVID-19 has had on individuals, communities and businesses. Around 135 million people around the world were already suffering from acute food insecurity, but now those figures are expected to double to 265 million as global communities struggle to access food amongst the pandemic.

The Love Food Give Food campaign hopes to do its part, and has raised over £3 million in its 21 years, helping to provide access to life-saving treatment for vulnerable communities around the world. Over 2,000 UK restaurants have taken part in previous years, including Hakkasan, Pho and Hawsmoor. This number is set to grow as this year, for the first time in the campaign’s history, restaurants will join forces with retailers and food and drink brands across the country. Celebrity chefs are also set to join the cause, with previous support coming from the likes of Vivek Singh, Asma Khan, Jason Atherton and Angela Harnett.

Speaking about this year’s campaign, celebrity chef and Action Against Hunger ambassador Cyrus Todiwala said: “COVID-19 has sent shockwaves across the globe and nowhere are these being felt more prominently than in places like Yemen, Syria and South Sudan. They don’t have our healthcare system or safety nets, and we are seeing hunger levels grow rapidly.

“The UK has been hard hit by this virus, including within the hospitality industry, but during our darkest hour, we cannot turn our back on those in need. I hope people will support this fantastic cause and all of the incredible restaurants and food brands involved that continue to bring so much hope to those in need.”

Love Food Give Food is part of Action Against Hunger’s annual operation, which offers live-saving programmes to treat malnutrition and offer access to safe and nutritious food in almost 50 countries.
